Winston County Library Celebrating National Library Week April 7 - 11

Local authors, activities for kids of all ages as well as the young at heart, and brand new books for patrons - the Winston County Library always makes the most of National Library Week. This year’s lineup of activities is full of author events, games, crafts, and much more. 


On Monday, April 7, the week kicks off with a blood drive from 11 AM to 3 PM. Patrons are encouraged to participate and to check out any new books available for check out. Art with Andy will take place at 3:30 Monday afternoon.


The puppet theater is scheduled for 9:30 AM Tuesday morning. You may also bring your own stuffed animals - be sure to put your name on your stuffed animal and let them spend the night. You may pick your stuffed animal up anytime Wednesday. You will be able to find out what activities your stuffed animal did overnight! 


On Tuesday, “maverick” gardener, MS Public Radio host, and gardening expert Felder Rushing will be at the Winston County Library at 3 PM. Be on the lookout for Felder’s mobile garden - a Ford F-150 decked out with a garden in the bed of the truck! Go inside the library to hear Felder offer advice on how to become your own maverick gardener (hint - Felder follows no rules; he plants what he likes wherever he likes). Bring your own plant for a plant swap during the event! 


On Wednesday, be at the library at 10 AM to Paint your own Door Hanger just in time for spring spruce-up around your home. Be sure to call and register as there is limited seating! The library’s number is 662-773-3212. 


Thursday brings another favorite local author - Steve Robertson! If you’re not familiar with Steve, he has written multiple books about Mississippi State. His latest offering, The Dude, which chronicles the life of Dudy Noble, for whom MSU’s baseball facility. Robertson details Noble’s life growing up in rural Mississippi as well as the coach’s legendary career. Robertson will have copies of his latest book as well as other titles for sale at the end of his author event. 


If you’ve never had an opportunity to hear Steve speak, you’ll definitely want to be there Thursday at 11:30 - you’ll be on the edge of your seat, hungry for more information. 


The Friends of the Library will also be providing lunch for the first twelve attendees on Thursday and Friday. 


Friday brings Louisville’s own Scott Hendrix to a lunchtime author event! Scott has written multiple pageturners, and his latest, Justine - is yet another offering that can’t be put down! Scott will be available to discuss Justine and his other books. He’ll also have copies available for sale as well!
