Recently, members of the MSU Spirit Squad competed in Daytona, Florida at the National Cheerleaders Association competition. Two squads were named National Champions after only two years of participating in the competition.
The Small Coed Intermediate D1A award as well as the Spirit Rally D1A national championship title came home with the Dawgs at the end of the event.
The Small Coed team is a traditional competition team made up of four male cheerleaders and sixteen females. The Spirit Rally team performed a game-day style performance.
Previously, the teams had placed third in national competition. Tiffany Fettinger, MSU Director of Spirit and Fan Engagement, said that the teams “worked non-stop to achieve a higher ranking in this year’s competition.” She added, “While we love the sidelines and will always support our Dawgs on their playing field, having the opportunity to perform on ‘our field’ is what will continue to take our program to the next level.”
The MSU Dance Team also competed for the first time at the National Dance Association, placing second; the all-girl cheer team placed sixth.
