April 1st saw the latest chapter to the Cross Creek Rivalry between the Noxapater Tigers and the Nanih Waiya Warriors. Both the boys baseball and girls softball teams squared off against each other underneath the lights in Nanih Waiya.
For the ladies, it was the Warriors who were victorious. The Warriors defeated the Tigers 10-0. With the win, Nanih Waiya improves to 9-8 on the season and an impressive 7-0 in district play. While the Lady Tigers fall to 3-10 overall and 2-4 in district play.
Lady Warrior Head Coach, Cody Parkes, had this to say about the win tonight, "The game went good. We played pretty solid defensively. Snow had 8 strikeouts to get the win and only gave up two hits. We hit the ball fairly well too." Looking ahead to the rest of the season Coach Parkes had this to say, "Going forward we have to make sure we make the routine plays defensively. Offensively we need to be more patient at the plate early in the game."
Across the way on the baseball diamond it was the Tigers on top with a 13-8 victory over the Warriors. This improves Noxapater's overall record to 17-3, 6-1 in district play. With tonight's loss the Warriors fall to 9-10 overall, 5-4 in district.
Head Coach of the Tiger ball club, Zach Kemp, said this about the game, “Offensively we played pretty good baseball. We have to limit our strike outs at the plate, and we can’t leave runners in scoring position. Our starter pitched good enough to win, and our reliever came in and did his job. Defensively I think we ended up with 7 errors. That’s not a good recipe for winning. We have some things we need to work on, but in the end it’s hard to beat a competitive baseball game.”
The Warrior and Tiger softball and baseball teams face each other again later this week. Softball plays April 3rd at 6:30pm, and baseball plays April 4th at 6:30pm. Both games will be played in Noxapater.
